If the Dress Fits was started by Ashleigh Franz and her mother Amy Arntson. They took the idea of helping teens in the northland find an affordable yet stylish gown for prom and created the organization. The idea took off and grew quickly. In November of 2016, If the Dress Fits became a Minnesota nonprofit.
